
Part 1 - Theory Test
100 multiple choice questions on the highway code, rules and laws of the road, road signs, instructional ability etc. Pass rate of 85% required and a minimum of 80% in all the four categories. Also the Hazard Perception test. Minimum score 57 out of 75.
Part 2 - Advanced Driving Test
You will need to be able to read a number plate from a distance of 26.5m. Be asked a selection of the Show me, tell me questions. Undertake an hour long driving test(including all maneoeuvres) to assess you can drive to an advanced standard, be confident and able to make quick, efficient decisions. Only six minor faults allowed.
Part 3 - Instructional Ability Test
An hour long test split into two parts. The examiner role plays the pupil and you will be tested on your ability to brief and teach pupils at different levels.
Phase 1 (Beginner or partly trained pupil)
Phase 2 (Trained pupil- near test standard/full licence holder)
The subjects will be chosen from 10 Pre set tests.
You may take the theory test as many times as you need, however the Part 2 & 3 exams have a maximum of three attempts. Should you fail Part 2 or 3 on the 3rd attempt you will need to wait two years from the date you passed your theory test to begin again.
Once you've completed your 40 hours Part 3 training and gained enough experience alongside your training you can proceed to your Driving Instructor's exam, Or you may decide to work while you train on a Trainee Licence.
